Commercial kitchens for the longest time have been seeking ways to become known as “green” or eco friendly. But once they got there, they have never had an efficient way to quantify their sustainability efforts, nor did they have a way to communicate those reductions to their customers. Now, Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions has provided that bridge for commercial kitchens with the newest eco friendly piece provided to Filta’s Franchise Network, the Filta Environmental Impact Report. The report roll out is a two part program that has an educational piece on the impact of cooking oil production and then the FiltaFry and FiltaBio reports that quantify the impacts of Filta’s fryer management service.
In the educational piece, one can see the production aspect of how cooking oil is created from the farm to the fryer. For example, on each step of the process environmental quick facts are given, like it takes 1.2 pounds of plastic and almost 1 pound of cardboard to create the “jug in a box” packaging. By following the steps of the cooking oil process, the report transitions into a visual representation of the biodiesel production process and why that is so important to helping out environment.
The Filta Franchise Owners are then able to generate their own specific impact reports for customers they service. That way, they can benchmark their individual results. For instance, if an average customer has saved and collected 1,000 pounds of oil using the FiltaFry and FiltaBio services, the carbon offset equates to planting 168 trees. Later this year, Filta plans on rolling out an Eco Awards program to the top commercial kitchen sustainability champions.
