Filta, best known as the company that invented Mobile Fryer and Cooking Oil Management knows something about professional  and the environment. Filta manages cooking oil in the kitchens, restaurants and concessions stands in of stadiums and arenas around the country. One of those venues, Sports Authority Field at Mile High is the home of the AFC Champion Denver Broncos. By using Filta’s micro-filtration service, Sports Authority Field uses significantly less cooking oil and recycles it into Biodiesel at the end of its useful life. The Broncos are set to take on NFC rivals the Seattle Seahawks on Super Bowl Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

MetLife Stadium is the first stadium in the world to earn the title of Certified Green Restaurant® from the Green Restaurant Association (GRA), exceeding its certification standards. Operated by foodservice partner Delaware North Companies Sportservice, the stadium has over 200 on-site restaurants servicing up to 100,000 people a day making it the largest food-service operation ever to receive the GRA certification.

The GRA worked with Delaware North to implement 61 sustainability measures at MetLife Stadium, including:

  • Installation of waterless urinals, touchless sensor faucets, 1/2-gallon faucet aerators, and low water landscaping
  • All waste kitchen oil is being converted to bio-fuel for heating Metlife Stadium
  • Donating all leftover  to local foodbanks and shelters
  • Recycling cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum and paper
  • Eliminating all polystyrene foam containers
  • Use of ENERGY STAR equipment
  • Composting all kitchen scraps

MetLife also has achieved ISO 14001 certification, a set of criteria for an environmental management system that maps out a framework a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. Earning GRA certification, coupled with becoming ISO 14001 certified means that the upcoming Super Bowl could be the “greenest” ever.

“While the entire NFL has become good stewards of the environmental movement – certain teams and stadiums stand out,” said Tom Dunn, Filta’s C.O.O. “We applaud the efforts of the Broncos, the Seahawks, MetLife Stadium and organizing staff of Super Bowl XLVIII. Regardless of the outcome on the field, our Environment is the real champion. But if we have to pick a favorite – we predict a Denver Bronco Win, since Sports Authority Field at Mile High is a Filta client.”
