Filta’s Adam Blake Assists with Humanitarian Relief in Honduras

At Filta, our employees are passionate not only about the business, but about many different charitable causes. As a result, we are humbled and honored to provide support for them and feature some of their amazing work here.

Today’s story comes from Adam Blake, VP of Franchise Development. Adam recently traveled to San Rafael, Lempira, Honduras, which is a community that his church, TC3 (Treasure Coast Community Church), sponsors. San Rafael is one of the poorest cities in Honduras, which is the ninth poorest country in the world. Needless to say, there is a very critical need for any type of humanitarian relief.

The people in this area live on less than $1 per day. In fact, they do not have a steady food supply, their water is contaminated making almost everybody ill, and many do not have reliable structures to live in. The mission for Adam’s team was to deliver water filters, pre-packaged food, and to help with building a home for a needy family. In addition, they shared their faith with people all along the way. During the journey, they hand delivered over 400 water filters. As a result, the filters will provide clean water to around 2,200 people for the next 5-7 years.

Here’s what Adam had to say about his experience:

“The people of Honduras are amazing. Though they live in extreme poverty, you wouldn’t know it by speaking to them. In most of the places we visited, the residents would offer us their chairs, and even their food. It was hard to believe that they would offer us food when they themselves have so little to eat.”

“There were two sisters, Lucy and Kimberly, that my wife and I got to know last year. This year when I went back, my daughters sent some stuffed animals that they wanted me to give to them. Afterwards, Lucy came back to the church to find me and gave me a necklace to give to my daughters as a gift from her. Talk about waterworks, it was one of the most touching things I’ve ever seen. These people have so little, yet give so much.”

“This was my second trip to San Rafael, and each time I go it helps me to get right in life. It helps me to get perspective and to remember what is really important. I’m already looking forward to next year!”

Adam’s trip has been an inspiration to all of us, here, at Filta, and we look forward to featuring many more great stories like this one soon! Below, are some of Adam’s photos from the mission trip.
